Sean Landers is a painter, sculptor and video artist whose paintings often present self-deprecating confessional text, combining anxiety with humor. This painting chronicles his emotions and thoughts, spread across the canvas during what should be the creative process, and yet he obsesses about his worth as an artist. The use of the totality of the canvas to express himself references the "action painting" and emotional content of the 1950s-era Abstract Expressionists such as Jackson Pollock. However, here Landers uses words rather than artistic line, gestural paintstrokes, color and composition to capture his restless malaise.
