Label Text:Too small to have been used in a church, this wooden carving was made for private devotional use, perhaps placed in a private chapel or other domestic setting. There are no traces of color, and it may have been originally intended as an unpainted wood piece.

This Christ figure is painstakingly carved, with distinct individual characteristics such as the hollow of the cheek, the quickly etched lines in the forehead, and the finely articulated waves in the hair surrounding the face and falling gracefully down the back.
