Label TextDuring the feast of Corpus Christi in 17th-century Spain, the figure of a nude Christ child, with the orb of the world in one hand and the other raised in benediction, was carried in procession from the church through the streets of the village or town. This example follows the Spanish models, but the lack of correct anatomical proportions and facial type, suggest a Latin American Colonial artist.
ProvenancePurchased September 23, 1998 through (Sotheby's New York, lot 138) by Duke University Museum of Art, now Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University.
