Label Text:Fred Wilson is best known for manipulating or repositioning found objects in order to question the authority of institutions, the power of images, and the underlying cultural biases of American society. For Dark Day, Dark Night, he covered an existing illuminated globe with black paint, obscuring most of the planet but subtly revealing the continents’ outlines. By altering this common object, Wilson shows how changes in context can create changes in meaning. His transformed globe presents a vision of the world that moves beyond traditional representations and challenges the viewer to consider new realities.
