Label Text:This door lock from a home or granary is composed of two parts: one fixed vertical element affixed to the door with iron staples; and a second horizontal element that slides through the vertical piece where iron teeth would fall into small holes locking the door. A wooden “key” would lift the iron pegs to open the door. The top of the door lock depicts a highly stylized human face, perhaps a representation of an ancestor called upon to guard against unwanted intruders and wicked spirits.
