Label Text:Beads are used to decorate crowns, hats, bags, and other items worn by high-ranking chiefs, kings, and diviners. Popular designs include human faces, birds, and flowers. This beaded pouch would have been affixed to a belt and worn on the hip during ceremonial occasions. The inscriptions “1938” on one side, and “Oba” on the other indicate the date of the object and the status of its owner as an oba, or king.
